Changing Outfits :: Ames C.art

I finally made the decision to make the change over from the Sewing Rebellion to Ames C.art (ames collaborative art). You can read all about it here on the Ames C.art website as well as see new upcoming events.

We are still having free workshops (or suggested donation only events) at the ames progressive, but we are now having events all around town. Make sure to check the calendar page of the website often or to sign up for the newsletter to hear all about it.

We have two events this Sunday: Community Art Discussion Group from  1-2 and then from 2-4 a Codex Book Binding Workshop at the Ames Progressive. RSVP (optional) on Meetup.com/amescart.

bookbindingworkshop

I’m working on changing out fliers, so if you see them, please pick them up and use them for scrap paper. Or even better, print out some ames c.art fliers and swap them with the SR fliers!

You can follow ames c.art on Twitter, Flickr, and become an Ames C.art Art Worker on Meetup.com.

And, of course, we have some sewing workshops in the works, so don’t worry, all your mending and sewing needs will still be taken care of :)

See you on Sunday!

July 12th Sewing Rebellion Meeting

Hi all and happy summer making! This month we are focusing on upcoming plan and projects and prospects. There has been a lot of interest in expanding our local chapter into areas other than sewing. This Sunday we are going to make and mend and talk a bit about what we all want for our local group.

Bring: a project to work on, a project (or neat book or whatever you are excited about) to show off, and a sack lunch. I will be mending and knitting and bring a few interesting books I’ve come across lately. I want to encourage a bit of a show and tell this meeting. What have you been working on at home? what are you excited about? what have you been writing, playing, reading, making?

Questions: on any sewing, crochet, knitting, weaving, drawing, or painting project bring it along.  All members have their own areas of expertise; we will all work together to help find a solution for your project.

When and Where: Sunday, July 12th – Noon to 4pm – stop by anytime, we are so okay with dropping in when you can to say hi. The Ames Progressive – located at 118 Hayward Avenue, Suite #3 in Ames, in the same building as The Ark Pet Shop, Domino’s Pizza, Nite Owl Printing and Scallion Korean Restaurant (just go around back, or take the side entrance and follow the hallway)

See you there!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The February meeting was a great sucess and much sharing of skills and ideas was achieved. So much so that we decided to start meeting twice a month! From now on the Sewing Rebellion will be every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. So in March the 8th and the 22nd. More updates forthcoming so check back later this week!

First Meeting Round Up!

DSC_0127

There was some great discussion and eats to be had. We enjoyed the brunchluck and started in on demos. We covered a lot of ground and thanks to Kate bringing in her dress pattern to work on, we went over the parts of a pattern and how to make darts.

We had some great instructions drawn up by Frau Fiber to get us started threading our needles and getting our buttons sewn back on.

We covered mending techniques: Mending holes with patches

Busted seams:

holes in sweater fabric:

Button sewing:

And how to sew up stretched out button holes (I know I’m happy to have my favorite sweater back in working order!)

This first meeting was such a great success. We brain stormed for future meetings and had a great time in general.

Next time we are going to take some of our favorite beat up shirts, take them apart the rest of the way, and draft up a pattern for them so we can make more + some great tote patterns provided by Frau Fiber!

I’ll post again soon about the upcoming meeting with more details! See you then!
